Fechado un 10 de febrero de 1999 escribe Pete Doherty en su diario:

I want to create a band that people will be sorry to miss, and obliged to adore.

Líneas después termina su punto iniciado muchas líneas atrás: la irrelevancia hacia 1999 del Britpop (así adquiere sentido la oración que pongo de él arriba). Discutido con una ex-integrante de Elastica. Y termina:

I want somebody, somewhere to feel it in his best interest to defent himself (at the threat of violence) in his belief  that "The Libertines" (or whatever we call ourselves) are perfection & beauty personified.
